Red Kangaroos

Posted: August 9, 2009 in Uncategorized

I’ve started a new painting of red kangaroos. I thought for something different I’d do them from the back view, so as to concentrate on the texture of their fur. I’m a little undecided about the background at this stage so I decided to block in the roos and I’ll choose my background when I’m happy with the animals.

Mallabulla

Posted: August 9, 2009 in art, artist, pastels, sea, seascape, water

Just finished this seascape of one of the local beaches at Mallabulla in Port Stephens.

Here are the lillies finished. I didn’t overdo the lillies in the forground because I wanted to keep the main focus of the drawing as the reflection. Hope you like it.

Just a quick update photo – the painting is coming along well, I have put in the reflection of the jetty and the clouds. I have started to put in the lillies randomly. Still a few more adjustments to make before it is finished.

After a recent stay at Eaglereach Wilnerness retreat, I have a mountain of location shots that I have been eager to turn into paintings. As a break from the tawnys, I started on this painting. The reflections in the water on this still morning were amazing. I have started putting in the main body of water and have put the base in for the boards on the jetty. The lillies, will go in as the last step once I have all the reflections in place.

The tawnys are really starting to take shape now, I still have a fair bit of work to do on the birds, but I wanted to make a start on the background. The first layer of leaves is down, with only a few more to add to the far background. The bird on the left is still relatively untouched, so I will focus more on that this week.

Had a bit of a play around in the studio this morning experimenting with a few different pastels. These are the results!

Tawny Frogmouth Progress

The tawnys are progressing slowly, but so far I am happy with how they are coming together. Today I plan on making a start with the background so I can get a better feel for the lighting and shade.
